FAQs - ABVM

Why are the ABVM Certification exams only offered once a year?

In the past the ABVM exams were offered year-round, however due to the small number of applications for these exams they are moving to a windowed exam delivery. This will help us maintain the psychometric validity of the exams. Window exams are offered during a select period of time only. As a result, the application will close on April 30, 2024, and the last day to take exams is July 10, 2024. The next ABVM exam administration window is expected to be in Q3 of 2025.

When will the ABVM exams be available again?

The ABVM certification exams are targeted for re-release in Q3 2025.

Will certification requirements change with the new exams?

Full details are still being finalized, but the overall certification requirements regarding education, experience, etc. are expected to remain largely unchanged. Any updates will be clearly communicated.

Who can I contact if I have any other questions?

Please contact the Inteleos Customer Care Team at applicationinformation@inteleos.org with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have about the ABVM certification changes.

What happens if I am currently registered to take an ABVM examination?

You will have until July 10, 2024 to take your examination. No further extensions will be granted.

What is the last date to apply for the ABVM examinations?

Applications will be accepted through April 30, 2024, however applicants will need to take the exam on or before July 10, 2024. The next examination administration after that is expected in Q3 of 2025.

If I apply now, will I get the full eligibility period to take the examination?

No. If you are deemed eligible to take an ABVM exam you will have to take the exam on or before July 10, 2024.

What if I have an appointment with Pearson Vue after July, 10, 2024?

You will be contacted and asked to reschedule on or before July, 10, 2024.

Will my current ABVM certification still be valid?

Yes, if you currently hold the ABVM vascular and/or endovascular certification, there will be no changes to your certification status during this period. Your certification will remain valid until its normal expiration date.

The ABVM Vascular Medicine and ABVM Endovascular Medicine certifications are currently valid for 10 years. The original MOC requirement (take and pass the appropriate 10-year recertification examination) is currently on hold and recertification examinations are not available.  For ABVM certifications set to expire on 12/31/2022, 12/31/2023, and 12/31/2024, the expiration date has been extended to 12/31/2025 as APCA continues to explore alternative options for maintenance of certification (MOC)/recertification.
