Candidates unsuccessful in passing the CBCMR examination, or who withdrew or were a No-Show, may reapply in future years. To be approved to take the examination, Candidates must meet all applicable eligibility criteria in the year of application. Candidates who have been unsuccessful in passing the CBCMR examination after 3 attempts will not be allowed to reapply in the immediate administration following the third attempt. In order to regain eligibility Candidates must meet all applicable eligibility criteria in the year of application AND provide an additional 20 AMA PRA Category I CMR specific CME, earned after the third unsuccessful attempt and within the 24 months immediately preceding application submission.
Applicants who take the CBCMR examination under the Alternate Board Pathway in 2019 through 2023 and are not successful can retake the CBCMR examination 2 times through 2025. After 3 attempts through 2025, this eligibility expires, and applicants are no longer able to sit under this closed pathway. Applicants who take the CBCMR examination and utilize the Clinical CMR Experience Pathway, in lieu of meeting General Training Requirements, and are not successful can retake the CBCMR examination 2 additional times through 2029. After 3 attempts through 2029, this eligibility expires, and applicants are no longer able to sit under this closed pathway. After the close of the 2029 examination administration, no applicants will be allowed to apply or utilize the additional retakes under this closed pathway.
